Academy UK

RTC's Academy UK project - funded over three years by the Big Lottery and the Arts Council - provides young Romany and non-Romany people a unique opportunity to gain certificated training in theatrical and performance skills, incorporating drama, dance, music, singing as well as technical skills such as lighting and set design, and also script development, production and directing. This training gives them the chance to see theatre and the arts as a viable career opportunity, and to learn skills that can be used in a variety of work situations. Training is delivered by professional artists and tutors in a closely supportive environment, leading to participation in public performances at the end of the course.

RTC ran its 2006 Academy programme in Ipswich producing the show 'Ursitory' which played at the Sir John Mills Theatre. We are looking into developing the 2007 Academy programme into Cambridgeshire.

The Academy's performing skills course has been accredited by the Open College Network
